Clos Dominic Vinyes Altes (94 pts) The flagship 2004 Vinyes Altes is produced from centennial vines with tiny yields on some of the steepest hillsides of the Porrera region. The blend is 75% old-vine Carinena and 25% old-vine Garnacha aged for 16 months in 100% new French oak. Opaque purple-colored, it has a complex perfume of pain grille, earth, mineral, tobacco, violets, black cherry, blueberry, and chocolate. On the palate the wine is full-bodied, opulent, and layered with well-concealed tannins, gobs of spicy blue and black fruits, great depth, and a very long, pure finish. Give this powerful effort 4-6 years of cellaring and drink it through 2025.

-2004 Clos Dominic Vinyes Baixes (92 pts) The 2004 Vinyes Baixes is composed of 50% Merlot, 35% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% old-vine Garnacha and Carinena, and 5% young Carinena aged for 14 months in seasoned French oak. Ruby red with violet hues, it exhibits an expressive bouquet of cedar, mineral, leather, red and black currants, and blackberry. This leads to a full-bodied wine with layers of spicy red and black fruits, a smooth texture, silky tannin, and excellent length. Give it 2-3 years to further blossom and drink it through 2020.
